If you have any comments or questions, you can send me an email here.

If you find any of these songs useful, please consider becoming a member of this site. I am happy and proud to be a member and it has been a great investment that has reaped huge dividends. I have gotten a lot more out of this site than I could ever hope to put in and I am genuinely grateful.

I am a semi-retired Folksinger, retired Army Bandsman, currently teaching Guitar Ensemble, String Ensembles, Concert Choir, and Recorder Ensemble, grades 3 - 8. Next time I retire though, I am going right back into folk singing. (It keeps me humble)

Songs are like children. They have to get out on their own and find their own identity. I started the process by writing them, but you complete the process by learning them, passing them down to young minds, and keeping them alive. I sincerely hope that one or two of my little songs will live on past the time when anyone will know I actually wrote them. It is the sweetest form of immortality I could possibly think of. You can find free MP3s of my folk songs on Soundclick.com here.

Leave me a message if you drop by. I would love to know what you think of my primitive efforts. I will also be mentioning that my songs will be written down here, so don't get stuck in a loop. I have had to depend on people who are wiser than me in the ways of technology all of my life. It doesn't bother me, but I am grateful that they are so gracious as well as generous. If you need any of these in a different format, give me a shout and if I am not in the middle of concert season, I will be glad to consider your request.

>>>We Went over 70,000 downloads, so the next goal is to get to 100,000. (Maybe even by the end of the year? < hope, hope >) When I was first invited to this webpage, I never thought it was possible, but now I have to admit that I am genuinely hopeful.

>>>Three songs have gone over 1,000 downloads now. I can't wait to find material that is at least as useful. Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.

>>>Finally got the Sol-Feg files uploaded. I would love to get feedback on these.

I would love to hear if something you found on this page convinced you to become a member. I don't get anything for it and I'm not looking for bragging rights. I would just like to know if this page is helping out Mike in any way. I don't want his generosity to me, to become a burden for this site. If something else was a deciding factor, be sure and let Mr. Daly know about that as well. If there is anything that any one of us can do to keep this online, I'm sure we can find a way to get it done. Oh, and if you actually read down this far, thank you bunches. My students are used to me but I may be a bit overwhelming to the general public.

Happy Birthday, Solo or Duet Guitar

Product Number: 1012000375
Series: Guitar Solo
Pages: 2
Description: The words for Happy Birthday are still in copyright, but the tune is in the public domain, so this is perfectly legal to play anywhere you want to. This is written with and without shorthand notation, in two different keys. I get requests from this whenever a student is asked to play for a Grand-parent or a mom or a dad. It is a pretty indispensable first year solo to learn for most serious young guitarists!

Happy Christmas for beginning Strings

Product Number: 1012000499
Series: String Method

Description: Simple two part mix and match for beginning strings. They can rock out and go a little crazy with this one. You would not believe the joy on the cello player's faces when they get just as much time to play the melody as everybody else!

Helping Hand - Lead Sheet

Product Number: 1012000502
Series: Lead Sheet
Pages: 1
Description: This is a shuffle rock tune I used to do with my combo. I hope you enjoy singing it as much as I do.

Here We Come a'Waiselling

Product Number: 1012000374
Series: Guitar Solo

Description: Another nice little first or second year guitar solo (or optional duet) I get a lot of requests from students around Christmas time, and I try to honor them. Every time I do, I end up with a bigger library. Talk about a win- win situation!

Holiday Hoedown for Beginning String Ensemble

Product Number: 1012000430
Series: String Ensemble

Description: Festive little tune with no Christmas songs in it at all. This arrangement contains "Boil That Cabbage down," "Jingle Bells" by James Pierpont (The Thanksgiving National Anthem) and "Auld Lange Syne" (A traditional New Year Song) so if you have anyone who can't play Christmas music, they can still play this one. (Multicultural Elves Hard at Work)

Hot Cross Buns (First Song Sheet)

Product Number: 1012000447
Series: Classroom Recorder
Pages: 2
Description: There are five beginning recorder songs on this page, all with shorthand notation on the second page. Hot cross buns, (modified to be twice as long) Tongue Tied (With the famous Pepperoni pizza rhythm. It could also be the Peanut Butter Sandwich rhythm if you are not fond of Pepperoni) See me - See you (new note, letter C) Jingle Bells (new note, letter D) and Elephants on Tip Toes (if you hum the same note that you play, into the recorder, you get the elephant sound)

Hot Cross Buns for Beginning Strings

Product Number: 1012000431
Series: String Method
Pages: 1
Description: This is a modified version of Hot Cross Buns in Five different keys, that everyone can play on all four strings. Later on, the Violins can learn it in C for the Violas and Cellos, and the Cellos can learn it in E for the Violins. It helps the student understand the relationship between strings and although I often have difficulty getting students to practice a song once, I usually have no difficulty at all getting students to learn a song in four different keys! I think it has something to do with the bragging factor.

Hot Cross Buns for solo guitar

Product Number: 1012000346
Series: Guitar Educational
Pages: 1
Description: First Guitar sheet for solo or duet. There are three songs on this page: 1. Hot Cross Buns (Modified to make it slightly longer) 2. War Drums of the Plains 3. Mary Had a Little Lamb This is specifically for younger ensembles, but I have used it with the older ones as well. Often the students will pull it out of the bin and ask to play it since they usually have younger brothers and sisters they want to play for or simply want more music to play. The shorthand notation is included. The top number is the string, the bottom number is the fret and the finger, and the note name is provided below. This is especially useful if, like me, you do not see your students on a daily basis and they get stalled out while practicing. It is also good for students with special needs. I have a modified version that I am working on that simply gives the name of each string instead of the string number. It can be confusing for some students, but very useful for others.

House of the Rising Sun for Advanced Guitar Ensemble

Product Number: 1012000706
Series: Guitar Ensemble
Pages: 3
Description: This is a slightly more difficult version of the same song. You will need to use all four fingers to play this, or double on I. There is a tiny bit more harmony and the F chord is Barred. There is no shorthand notation for this file since, if you are ready to attempt this, you probably don't need it. If I am wrong however, let me know and I'll thump it out when I get a chance.

House of the Rising Sun For Guitar Ensemble

Product Number: 1012000705
Series: Guitar Ensemble
Pages: 3
Description: This is a traditional Blues song in 6/8 time, using a P-I-M-A-M-I pattern with octave voicing in the other two parts. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

How Can I Keep From Singing - Guitar Solo

Product Number: 1012004154
Series: Guitar Solo
Pages: 2
Description: This is a traditional Shaker Hymn, but I listed it as simply traditional out of respect for the separation of Church and State that concerns so many school districts. It is published with and without shorthand notation and has a slight modal feel.

Humming birds for Recorder Duet

Product Number: 1012000452
Series: Recorder Ensemble

Description: This is a song that recorders love to play. The High C to D trill is a little bit harder than the G to A trill, but it all becomes worth it when you slide into home in the last two bars. O Come Little Children is on the same page. It's all about saving the trees. There is no shorthand notation on the second sheet, but the note names are there. My students haven't needed the short hand by now, but if you have some that do, I would be glad to edit the file to include it.

Hummingbirds

Product Number: 1012000319
Series: Recorder Ensemble

Hungarian Peasent's Dance for Beginning string Ensemble

Product Number: 1013000003
Series: String Ensemble
Pages: 12
Description: I was going to wait until I rewrote this to post it, but some of my past students were complaining that they couldn't find it. This is the ong in the original form. I am going to add an echo effect eventually and probably write a score for it, but my former students said that they wanted this the way they remember it. This is a two part arrangement with and without shorthand notation. It uses the Hungarian scale, but it really sounds more Arabic. We have a lot of fun with it and it is a great way to encourage students to use low one (one down) while keeping the third finger in position. When I rewrite this, I will post version two separately so you can make your own comparisons.
